Gauge 
6.667Sts/in
8 rows/in (20sts by 20 rows measured 3in by 2 1/2in)

With 3mm dpns co 40sts and work K2 x p2 rib for 8 rounds. change to 3 1/2mm ndls and k1
rnd.
1st round K1, inc in loop between sts work to last st inc in loop between sts k1
work 3 rows straight then repeat 1st round
you now have 44sts
k3 rows.
9th round k1, k2tog work to last three sts ssk, k1
working all other rows straight repeat round 9 for every 5th row till you have 32sts. Cont straight
for 6 more rows.
K sts on first needle and turn
Using a 3mm needle p8 from first needle and 8 from third needle
Now work back and forth in rows of st st for another 7 rows using the 3mm needles and slipping
the first stitch of each row.
End with a knit row.
P9, p2tog, p1 Turn your work.
Sl1, k3 SSK, k1, Turn.
Sl1, p4 p2tog, p1 Turn.
Sl1, k5 SSK, k1, Turn.
Sl1, p6 p2tog, p1, turn
Sl1, k7, SSK, k1
Puk 8sts at the side of the heel flap using the 3 1/2mm again. Work over 16sts for instep of sock
then  puk 8sts up side of heel flap then work to half way across heel flap. The round now starts at
the centre of the heel
On alternate rounds dec at the ankle side (that's work to last three on first needle k2tog k1 and
work first sts of third needle k1 ssk until you have (32sts)ending with a straight rnd.
K16 rnds
Then on next and alternate rows work to last 3 of 1st needle k2tog k2 work k1 ssk at start of 2nd
needle work to last three of this needle k2tog k1 work start of 3rd needle k1 ssk
Continue until you do a decrease row that leaves 16sts in total then work the sts on the 1st and
2nd needle only
Break yarn and kitchener the sts.
Short version is made by casting on 32sts working 8 rows of rib then 12 st st straight. Then
starting from heel flap finish as per knee length version.
